Over the last few months, ever since Ulduar was introduced, I’ve found my self gradually getting bored with raiding. I still enjoy learning new tactics and how to get down new bosses and seeing the content, but as soon as I’ve cleared the instance I quickly lose interest. With gear being much more easily obtainable there really is no reason for me to go back to these raids, apart from helping other people gear up for whatever Blizzard throws at us next.
Even though what previously kept me playing is starting to grow old, I’m still finding my self enjoying the game, but in a different way than before. As mentioned in a previous posts I’m an altaholic. In my “WoW-career” I’ve changed mains thrice and am likely to do so again when the next expansion hits. Since I don’t know which character I’ll want to make my main next I’ve started to level several characters, both new and old, to 80 to have more too choose from once the expansion hits. Currently I’m looking to have at least one of each role at 80. This may not be the most exciting thing to do in WoW at the moment, but it keeps me entertained.
A more interesting thing I got going on the side of raiding, is vanilla raiding, more specifically the “Abso Vanilla Project”. Quite a lot of people in the guild didn’t start to raid until either TBC or Wotlk, and thus never saw any of the old content, except through the eyes of an over powered 70 or 80 who could steam roll anything. With news of players being able to turn off XP gains in 3.2 we decided to set up a guild for 60’s only who would run the old content at the appropriate level. I have a feeling this will prove an interesting project, and it might just burst some of the bubbles about “everything being better in the old days”. So far there are about ten of us. We’ve ran a couple of instances (completely obliterated Sunken Temple), but some have had to stop due to getting close to dinging 61. We have not got a guild going yet, but plan on having one up and running within a couple of weeks, perhaps even some forums. Should you be interested in joining us for some silly vanilla fun, either leave a comment here on the blog or poke Erc on Argent Dawn EU.
Looking back at the four and half years that I’ve been playing my play style has changed several times. I’ve gone from complete and utter newb to hard core raider, to PvP-er, to casual raider and finally casual raider with a lot of stuff on the side. Some players may stay the same as long as they play, while other go through phases like I have. Now I’d like to hear about how you approach the game and if it has changed any over the time that you have been playing?
