Windsoar is celebrating six months of blogging by offering to serve as a muse for her readers. Here is my inspiration:
If you had to choose a single class to remain faithful to for the next 3-6 months, what would you choose? For the purpose of this question, this is a newly rolled character, not one that you are currently attached too ^^ In that scenario, how would you level (quests or dungeons) would you stop to smell the roses, or high-tail it to 80?
Wow, uhm. This is actually a question I’ve asked myself a few times. How would I approach the game if I had to start all over from scratch? I suspect Windsoar had a peek at my characters tab and figured I was an altoholic, intending for me to really have to twist my brain on this one.
I have a weak spot for hybrids. Of the three characters I’ve considered to be mains, two have been hybrids, a paladin and a druid. Having grown bored of the paladin and a bit tired of the druid I’m having a blast playing my shammy at the moment. It’s got the almost as good versatility as a druid and the fact that I’m less bound to a single role makes it feel like more of a “true” hybrid, and he’s a troll, which always is a big plus.
It’s tempting to just say shaman, but there’s one more class I would consider. A Death Ta-, err, Knight! Tanking and melee DPS are the roles I still feel like I haven’t given a proper go at end game yet and the DK is the only class I’ve really not put any effort into apart from levelling one to 66, which really is no effort at all. I’m rather clueless about their talents trees, rotations, stats, pretty much everything apart from the basic rotation of an Unholy DK. I’ve said before that the reason I enjoy alting so much is the process of figuring out and learning how to play a class on my own without any help from guides or such until I’ve perfected my own play style as best I can, not until then I compare what I got to various guides.
If my account, may the Loa forbid it, should be hacked tomorrow and it would prove impossible to retrieve any of my characters or gold I think I would roll a DK. I’d be able to start off with more than decent gear, skip the old world and play the last class and roles I have yet to explore in the game.
Now to the other question at hand. How would I play it? As with all my alts I would level by whatever means I felt like at the time. I’d do dungeons as a tank until I was about to rip the ninja pulling hunter a new one, then let out some steam by enjoying the OP-ness of DK PvP, then go back to tanking. Mix in some mindless questing while waiting in queues and you’re looking at how I level most of my characters. In addition I’d probably give some professions I haven’t tried before a go, most likely either engineering or inscription, or perhaps another failed attempt at leveling enchanting.
As mentioned, Windsoar pretty much read my mind since this is something I’ve been thinking about for a while. Wotlk is starting to grow old, with the exception of ICC, the DK is all there is left for me to explore. For all I know, depending on how far away Cataclysm is, I might level one to 80 out of boredom and curiosity.
